Word Open XML Document Template

A .dotx extension file is a document template file where the x stands for XML (eXtensible Markup Language). The DOTX template files are created using the Microsoft Word Processor. They can either be content templates or layout template to suit custom needs. A DOTX template includes information on the auto text, settings, layout of the document, toolbars and macros. There are some standard .dotx format templates provided by Microsoft but users have the option to create customized templates as per required specifications for business correspondence including envelopes, letters, newsletters, training material, forms, brochures, announcements as well as for legal documents that include contracts and agreements.

The Open Document Text filename extension format is an alternative open source document and text processing file format allowing users to create text documents that can be opened and edited by an extensive list of document processing applications. Both proprietary applications (such as in Microsoft Office word) and open source document processing applications (such as OpenOffice) support the .odt filename extension allowing for interoperability between software systems. The format is useful to those creating documents meant to target a wide audience and not necessarily an audience with a specific document processing suite. The extension was first released in 2005.

How to convert DOTX to ODT

STEP 1

Select the document file in the DOTX format to convert to the ODT format, you can select a file from your computer or your Google Drive or Dropbox account.                            

STEP 2

Choose the ODT format from the drop-down list as the output format, and click the Convert button, you can convert up to 5 files at the same time and a maximum size of up to 500 MB.
